The
Surgical Tract Internship is comprised of four-week rotations. This allows for
twelve rotations and four weeks of vacation. This tract is designed to
give the intern more surgical experience, but does not guarantee acceptance into
the residency program. The Internship is comprised of the following
rotations:
5 Months of General
Surgery
While on the Surgical
Services, the Intern will work under supervision of Surgical Attendings and
Residents. Responsibilities will parallel surgical resident responsibilities,
which include a mix of in-patient and ambulatory care, trauma, and operative
experience.
2 Months of
Internal Medicine
While on the medicine
service, the Intern will work side by side with Internal Medicine Residents
under the supervision of Attending Internists and Senior Residents.
1 Month of Emergency
Medicine
While in the Emergency
Department, the Intern will work under the supervision of Emergency Medicine
Attendings and Residents.
1 Month Obstetrics
and Gynecology
While on the Ob/Gyn
service, Interns work under the supervision of Ob/Gyn Attendings. Outpatient Ob/Gyn,
labor and delivery, and In-patient Ob/Gyn services are all provided at St.
Barnabas Hospital.
1 Month Pediatrics
Interns will satisfy
their pediatrics requirement at St. Barnabas Hospital under the supervision of
Pediatrics Attendings and Residents.
1 Month Family
Practice
Interns will be under
the supervision of Family Practice Attendings and Residents at our various
ambulatory care clinics.
1 Month Intensive
Care Unit
Interns will be
working under the supervision of Critical Care Attendings and Residents rotating
from Medicine, EM, and FP. Patients include a mix of medical and surgical
patients.
