St. Barnabas Hospital is the flagship of the St. Barnabas
Hospital Healthcare Network, a major healthcare system serving the Bronx
community. Proud of its history, St. Barnabas traces its origins to a home for
incurables founded in the Bronx in 1866. Today, as a high-tech, 461-bed acute
care hospital and Level I Trauma Center, St. Barnabas retains deep roots in the
community.
A nonsectarian, not-for-profit hospital, St. Barnabas provides
high quality inpatient, outpatient, and emergency medical, mental health, and
dental services at multiple locations throughout the borough. The network also
includes a 199-bed skilled nursing facility and Medicaid managed care plan.

Our Community
The Bronx is racially and ethnically diverse: 48.4% Hispanic;
31.2% Black/African American; 14.5% White; 5.9% Other (U.S. Census, 2000). Low
socioeconomic status among Bronx residents has severe health implications.
