Trauma is a sudden, serious, sometimes
life-threatening injury that requires immediate and highly
skilled medical attention. Trauma is the #1 cause of death
and disability in patients 1 through 44 years of age and
affects more patients than those with cancer and heart disease
combined.
The St. Barnabas Trauma Center has achieved
Level I status, which is the highest designation in the State
of New York. Level I trauma centers are examples of systems
that provide continuous, integrated care starting in the
pre-hospital phase, continuing through resuscitation until
rehabilitation.
The St. Barnabas Trauma Team is led by a
board-certified surgeon with fellowship training in trauma and
surgical critical care and includes a team of trauma surgeons,
emergency physicians, neurosurgery, orthopedics, radiology,
pediatrics, anesthesia, nursing and support services. Every
member of the trauma team contributes in the continuum of
quality trauma care.
St. Barnabas Regional Trauma Center is equipped
with the latest state-of-the-art technology and facilities,
including a sophisticated trauma resuscitation bay, operative
suites, CAT Scans, MRI, Interventional Radiology and Intensive
Care Unit.
From resuscitation to rehabilitation, St.
Barnabas Regional Trauma Center provides a continuum of trauma
care including post-discharge follow up in our trauma clinic.
In addition to caring for trauma patients, St.
Barnabas Regional Trauma Center is committed to reducing
injuries in our community by providing injury prevention
programs such as Bicycle Helmet Distribution to children in
surrounding Bronx schools and safety programs for expecting
and new parents. Our Trauma Center is proud to be an active
member of the New York City Safe Kids Chapter. |
