Patient Relations

We Want Your Contact with St. Barnabas Hospital to be a Positive Experience

Our patient representatives are caring professionals that assist staff, patients and families. They are there to help find solutions to problems, concerns, and unmet needs.

 

The Patient Relations Department works with all areas in the hospital.

 

Our patient representatives:

  • Listen to the patient’s perceptions of problems

  • Help the patient cope with hospitalization

  • Encourage patients to become active participants in their own healthcare

  • Interpret hospital policies, procedures and services

  • Educate staff and patients on the patient’s bill of rights and advance directives

  • Are a resource for available interpretive services, including sign language

YOUR BILL OF RIGHTS 

                     

As a patient in a hospital in New York State, you have rights including:

  • Confidentiality

  • Privacy
  • Advance directives

  • Pain management

  • Informed consent

  • Considerate respectful care

  • Names and positions of staff
  • Refusal of treatment

  • Participation in treatment and discharge

  • Written information on the appeal process

  • Review of your medical records

  • Complain without fear of reprisals
